The Wraith Resurgence Plot Guide

Dialogue

Unlike previous plots, the majority of the story for the Wraith Resurgence will be told via temporary dialogue boxes that appear on hub pages. Starting with the Faerie Festival, this is a record of the dialogue so far.

September 15, 2017

The first dialogue appeared on September 15th, 2017 in Faerieland, ahead of the Faerie Festival beginning:

Light Faerie: Queen Fyora! Did you call for us?

Fyora: Yes, I did. I was thinking about the festival the other day. It's been a while since we've had a grand celebration and I was wondering if we could have one this year. It would be nice to invite other Neopians as well.

Fire Faerie: Wait, the festival? The Faerie Festival? Can we really do that this year?

Fyora: I think we should. And I know how much you both used to enjoy organizing such events.

Light Faerie: We would love to organize the festival, my queen!

Fire Faerie: Yes, definitely!

Fyora: That's wonderful! Let me inform the others then...

Fire/Light Faerie: *almost out of earshot* We're on it!

September 17, 2017

Fyora: How are the preparations going?

Light Faerie: Oh, splendid! All the faeries seem really excited about it.

Fire Faerie: Yes, most of the stalls are already taken up.

Fyora: That's good to know. How about Kaia? Is she volunteering at any of the stalls?

Light Faerie: No, my queen. On the contrary, she's been staying away from all the preparations.

Fire Faerie: Yes. All the student vacancies have been filled. I don't think Kaia will be able to join in now.

Fyora: Could you please send her over to the palace when you find her?

Light Faerie: Yes, my queen. We will.

September 19, 2017

On September 19th, another new update was added along with a new Neopedia article for Kaia:

Fyora: Kaia! Come in, have a seat.

Kaia: You wished to see me, my queen?

Fyora: Yes. I'm sure you're aware of the preparations for the Faerie Festival that are going on. Which stall are you volunteering at?

Kaia: I... They all had volunteers, my queen. I couldn't find any stall where I could help at.

Fyora: Hmm, I thought so. Well, we'll need a stall for you then. I want you to go ahead and set up a game stall - something which is festive and fun to play. It would be a nice addition to the Faerie Festival.

Kaia: My own stall? But are you sure, my queen? Could I really do that?

Fyora: *smiling* Of course, I'm sure!

Kaia: Oh, I'm so excited! I'll get started immediately. I already have an idea in mind!

September 27, 2017

When the Faerie Festival closed, it was unexpectedly vandalised. On September 27th, the Queen posted the following message at the Festival grounds:

September 30, 2017

On September 30th, new dialogue was added to the Faerie Festival page:

Fyora: Have we got any leads?

Battle Faerie: I'm sorry, my queen. Nobody seems to know what happened here.

Angry Yurble: Queen Fyora! I saw what happened!

Battle Faerie: Really? We're pretty sure nobody was near the Festival grounds when it happened.

Fyora: Let him talk, Aethia.

Angry Yurble: I was passing by here on my way back from a friend's place. You won't believe what I saw, my queen, but the wraith did this!

October 4, 2017

Fyora: It can't be! Tell us everything you saw.

Angry Yurble: I get the reward, right?

Fyora: If you have any information that proves helpful, of course you do.

Angry Yurble: Well then, here's what happened...

This update also came with an animated video relating the Yurble's tale:

October 7, 2017

Aethia: I'm not sure I believe his story.

Fyora: What makes you say that?

Aethia: That isn't even what the wraith look like! Plus, our barrier spell! What about our barrier spell?!

Fyora: I'm afraid I can't agree with you. I have reason to believe he speaks the truth.

October 10, 2017

Fyora: I don't know if you noticed, but the plants in the land have begun to droop ever so slightly. It isn't much, but it is unmistakable. Something is draining the life force around us, and it looks very much like the darkness we have always associated with the wraith.

Aethia: But what about our barrier spell, Fyora?!

Fyora: I did a quick check before I came here - there were no obvious violations. But now that the Yurble has confirmed my fears, I'm going to take a closer look at it and see if there's something I missed.

Taelia: What do we do now, Queen Fyora?

Fyora: We must first find out where the wraith are spawning from and fight them before they can cause any more destruction. We must then work to repel the life-sucking forces they bring with them. We can then work together to find out how they were able to overcome the barrier spell, and what we must do to prevent this from happening again.

Aethia: I can't wait to get started!

October 13, 2017

More dialogue was added at the Faerie Festival on October 13th:

Taelia: But how do we find out where the wraith are going to attack next? We are powerful as faeries, but we have our limitations too.

Fyora: We have someone in our midst us who can help us. Kaia? Would you please step forward?

Kaia: Y... Yes, my queen...

Fyora: We must now put your skills to the test!

October 16, 2017

October 16th came with another update, which also included an update to Kaia's Neopedia entry about her mysterious ability:

Fyora: A few months ago, it was brought to my notice that Kaia has an exceptional power, gradually being revealed as she trained. I began observing her, and realized that with a little extra training, this young faerie can become a great asset to our kingdom. She foresaw the fire at the Academy Library well before it happened and came up to me, trembling and nearly incoherent. It took a while to understand what she was saying, but I finally did and we were able to save many lives by getting there before it could get out of hand.

Taelia: You mean, she has The Sight?!

Fyora: I have not determined how much her Sight encompasses, but she has repeatedly foreseen misfortunes since then.

Taelia: That's wonderful! I wish you had told us about this sooner, my queen.

October 19, 2017

The final update at the Faerie Festival came on October 19th:

Fyora: I had my reasons for not revealing her powers. In any case, I believe Kaia can assist us in finding out where the wraith are -

Aethia: And then our army can go and crush them!

Fyora: I expect you to take charge there, Aethia. Taelia, I want you to start working on potions that you think might come in handy in the days to come. With the wraith moving around in the land, I fear we might need help in replenishing the life force of affected beings.

Taelia: I'll get right to it, my queen.

Kaia: What would be required of me, Queen Fyora?

Fyora: You, my young faerie, will help save our land.

November 17, 2017

When the plot officially started on November 17th, additional dialogue was added to the main Wraith Resurgence page:

Fyora: Aethia, is your army ready?

Aethia All arrangements have been made. I will be taking your leave now, my queen. The enchanted map over there should help you observe our movements and guide us when needed.

Fyora: I will do that. Taelia, how is your research coming along?

Taelia: It's slow, but I'm making progress. I need something new to make these potions truly effective. I hope I can find something soon.

Fyora: Oh, Kaia's gone into a trance! We need to be on the lookout for this, and try to make sense of whatever she's murmuring.

Aethia: I've never seen anything like this before!

November 18, 2017

More dialogue appeared the following day on November 18th. However, this was later used again in a subsequent update, suggesting that it was released early in error:

Fyora: You say it turned into a Neopet?!

Aethia: I couldn't believe my eyes either, Fyora, but it looked like they were pets cursed to become wraith... or whatever that poor thing is now.

Fyora: That certainly explains how they got past the barrier spell! But we need to figure out how to lift the curse and cure them. Taelia, do you think you can concoct a potion that would heal them?

Taelia: There's no way we can approach them while they're wraith. Defeating them in battle seems to weaken the curse considerably-enough to reveal their true form, but not quite restore their former selves.

Fyora: If you can weaken them and bring them to me, I'm quite sure I can put together a potion that will heal them.

Aethia: Is there no way to do this without hurting the pets?

Fyora: If I can find out what the source of this dark magic is, I should be able to reverse its effects.

Fyora: We can try talking to the pets once they've recovered. They might also be able to shed more light on this.

November 29, 2017

New dialogue appeared following over a week of silence on November 29th:

Light Faerie: This is incredible! How are you using the remains of the wraith to create potions that work against the darkness they spread?

Taelia: I realized the wraith have powerful magic coursing through them, and it lingers in the remains the warriors are bringing back from battle. It's tricky, but I managed to reverse the nature of the magic while retaining its potency so that it works against itself.

Light Faerie: Then why can’t we just use the same magic to defeat the wraith?

Taelia: But how do we make them drink the potion?

Light Faerie: They don't have to! A few of us have come together to assist the warriors with special weapons that help take down the wraith – with your help, we can also try equipping them with this magic so that it works against the wraith they’re battling.

Taelia: I'll see what I can do.

December 6, 2017:

The dialogue from November 18th reappeared, however it had been altered slightly - suggesting that it was originally released earlier in error:

Fyora: You say they turned into Neopets?!

Aethia: I couldn't believe my eyes either, but it looked like they were pets cursed to become wraiths...or whatever those poor things are now.

Fyora: That certainly explains how they got past the barrier spell! But we need to figure out how to lift the curse and cure them.

Aethia: There's no way we can approach them while they're wraiths. Taelia's magic seems to weaken the curse considerably – enough to reveal their true forms, but not quite restore them to their former selves.

Taelia: If you can bring them to me once they’ve transformed, I can nurse them back to health.

Aethia: Is there no way to do this without hurting the pets?

Fyora: If I can get to the source of this dark magic, I should be able to reverse its effects.

Taelia: We can try talking to the pets once they’ve recovered. They might be able to shed more light on this.

December 19, 2017:

The following dialogue appeared on December 19th, along with the Story So Far page to archive major story points. It is unclear if this dialogue was meant to be released this early, as the Shoyru involved is the Wind Rider Wraith, which was not available to be cured until December 29th (and December 24th in an early release).

Shoyru: I am absolutely sure of it! Someone or something was prowling around here, and was clearly up to no good!

Skeith: Look, I'm not saying I don’t believe you. All I'm asking is, how'd it disappear so quickly?

Shoyru: I have no idea! In fact, I have a feeling it’s still somewhere around here.

Skeith: No – I know what you're going to say. Bad idea! Let's go talk to someone. Let's tell Fyora.

Shoyru: And say what? We don't know what it is – or what it even looks like! We don't know what it was doing here. We have no concrete information.

Skeith: I am NOT going to look for it!

Shoyru: We'll stay safe, I promise!

Skeith: Look, this is stupid! No!

Shoyru: You're just scared! Come on!

Skeith: *sigh* This is a bad, bad, bad idea...

December 29, 2017:

The following dialogue appeared with the official release of the third Wraith challenger.

Aethia: We've just discovered another species of wraith. Kaia helped locate them again.

Fyora: Are you able to hold out against them?

Aethia: This one seems stronger than the others, but I'm confident we can defeat them. What really worries me is the mystery behind them - how are Neopets turning into wraiths? What are we up against?

Fyora: Just a few days ago, there were unusual magical forces emanating from the Wild Woods very similar to what Taelia has found in the ingredients she’s using for her potions. I’ve been scouring the woods in search of the source. I am quite certain we will find something soon.

Aethia: Please stay safe, Fyora. We've never seen anything like this before.

Fyora: Don’t worry, Aethia. We can get through this. I've been following your progress on the enchanted map. You're doing a good job.

January 2, 2018:

Early in the new year, additional dialogue was added to the Infirmary page:

Jetsam: Ugh! Again?! It tastes horrible!

Taelia: Someone seems to be a lot better today!

Jetsam: I feel terrible, but I suppose that's an improvement...

Taelia: See? This potion helps!

Jetsam: Hmph! Why am I here anyway?

Taelia: I was hoping you could tell us that.

Jetsam: I was brought here by strangers!

Taelia: To be treated. You were badly injured and you weren't acting... normal.

Jetsam: I vaguely remember fighting... Someone was attacking me, and I was trying to defend myself.

Taelia: And before that? How did the fight start?

Jetsam: I... I don't know, really.

Taelia: You had taken the form of a wraith. You were attacking innocent Neopians and crushing trees with your jaws.

Jetsam: I'm horrified. I don't remember any of that.

Taelia: You don't have any idea how you changed forms?

Jetsam: Well... I do remember a blinding flash of light. Deep red. I don't know what happened after that. That's all I can remember.

Taelia: Where were you? What were you doing?

Jetsam: I had gone to the Haunted Woods in search of a rare plant. I was in the woods, didn't see anything unusual. Next thing I know, there's a brilliant red light. That's all. I have no idea what happened after that.

Taelia: I see. Well, you better lie down again. You seem to be getting tired. And please drink your potion. It will help.

January 10, 2018:

With the addition of Finn the Meerca to the Infirmary, new dialogue was released there:

Taelia: How do you feel today, Damon?

Damon: Pretty good, actually.

Taelia: Great! I think you can stop your medications pretty soon.

Damon: Finally! Does this mean I can leave soon?

Taelia: Yes. You do need to continue drinking this for now, but only for a couple of days. As long as you don’t have a relapse once you stop, you’re good to go.

Damon: I can’t wait to get back home!

January 12, 2018:

When Fyora went missing, the following dialogue was added:

Taelia: Has anyone seen Fyora? I was told she wanted to meet me in the evening, but she isn't in her palace.

Aethia: She did mention that she was spending time in the Wild Woods in search of the source of the dark magic affecting the cursed Neopets. Maybe she's there right now...

January 13, 2018:

The following day, Fyora arrived at the Infirmary, along with the following dialogue:

Taelia: Your majesty! What happened to you?!

Fyora: Tae...lia...

Taelia: Fyora, Fyora, Say something, please!

Light Faerie: Oh no! She isn't responding! This is terrible!

January 19, 2018:

With the launch of a new step in the Wild Woods, new dialogue was added to the infirmary page:

Aethia: How's Fyora?

Taelia: She isn't responding to the potions as well as the Neopets are.

Aethia: Oh no! Do you think she's going to be okay?

Taelia: I do see some response, so I'm hopeful she will recover completely. But I think it's going to take some time.

Aethia: Do you need more potions?

Taelia: We're getting all the potions we need. She just needs time.

Aethia: What about Finn?

Taelia: Oh, he's doing great. He'll be ready to leave in a few days... I just spoke to him about his... curse.

Aethia: What did he say?

Taelia: He saw a monsterous creature appear in front of him, and then there was a bright red flash that nearly blinded him. He has no idea what happened to him after that.

Aethia: What kind of monster? A mutant?

Taelia: He isn't sure... not any of the known mutants, apparently.

Additional dialogue was added to the Headquarters page:

Aethia: I forbid every one of you – faeries and Neopets alike – from entering the Wild Woods. We have no idea what we’re dealing with.

Kaia: We must find and punish the creature responsible for Fyora’s condition.

Aethia: If it can harm Fyora, it can harm you too.

Kaia: I am not taking orders from you, Aethia.

Aethia: Look, I’m telling you for your own good. Don’t try to be heroic and go looking for that creature. We don’t need any more casualties.

Kaia: Don’t worry your delicate heads about me. I’ll be fine.

Light Faerie: *gasp*

Aethia: Don’t you dare!

January 24, 2018:

When Nolan appeared in the Infirmary, new dialogue was added to the Headquarters page:

Aethia: What did you think you were doing?!

Kaia: That creature must be killed!

Aethia: I am the one giving orders here!

Kaia: I am not one of your soldiers - Fyora put me in charge over here.

Aethia: You insolent girl! You are here to assist us, not lead us.

Kaia: Well, since Fyora can't lead now, we need a strong and powerful faerie in her place.

Aethia: And that's me. Now if you don't watch it, I will have you escorted out of Faerieland and prevented from returning...

Taelia: This is no time for fighting! Now, more than ever, we need to be united and work together against our enemy! Please, we're all upset about the situation, but we must not get carried away!

Aethia: I will not tolerate insubordination!

Taelia: We all have an important role to play here, and we can't do each other's jobs. We may not always like each other very much, but let's try to get along as best as we can. For everyone's sake! They're depending on us!

January 31st, 2018:

New dialogue was briefly added to the Headquarters page on the last day of January, before being removed. It reappeared the following day along with the official release of the Malum plot step, on February 1st.

Kaia: He's near the Gypsy Camp!

Taelia: Who?

Kaia: The creature that attacked Fyora!

Light Faerie: How do you know?

Kaia: I just got a vision! Hurry, get him before he escapes ag-

Aethia: We must make sure we have the upper hand this time! Alina, have you made the adjustments I asked for?

Light Faerie: Yes, we've enhanced them the way you wanted.

Aethia: Perfect. Warriors, rush to the Gypsy Camp immediately, but make sure you stay out of sight until one of the light faeries arrive. Alina, gather the others and rush over with the weapons, now!

Aethia: Our enemy may be strong, but with these weapons, you are going to be a force to reckon with. Go forth with confidence, for this time, we shall prevail!

Kaia: Be careful who you mess with, Malum.

February 7th, 2018:

After Aiden appeared in the Infirmary, new dialogue appeared there:

Aethia: Taelia, we defeated him!

Taelia: I heard! Well done!

Aethia: No! I'm not sure I did the right thing...

Taelia: What do you mean?

Aethia: Just before he passed out, he said we got the wrong guy.

Taelia: You believe him?

Aethia: I - yes. There was something about the way he said it... Do you think you can revive him?

Taelia: Aethia! I don't know if that's a good idea!

Aethia: I have a gut feeling about this. I think we should hear him out.

Taelia: Well, if you insist...

Aethia: Please. Let me know as soon as he's in a position to talk.

Taelia: I will.

Aethia: How's Fyora?

Taelia: She's improving, but I don't see her fully recovering any time soon.

Aethia: *sigh* I'm hoping the Lupe will be able to give us at least some of the answers we're all looking for.

Taelia: I hope you're right.

Aethia: What about Nolan?

Taelia: He's doing very well. He should be ready to leave by tomorrow.

Aethia: Great! I'll have the Lupe brought here as soon as possible.

Taelia: I'll make the arrangements I need to treat him.

February 9th, 2018:

With the arrival of Fiendish Formations, new dialogue appeared on the Headquarters page:

Aethia: I need help!

Taelia: What's wrong?

Aethia: Just when we thought we were getting the upper hand against the wraiths, they've intensified their attacks.

Taelia: Oh no! What do you want me to do?

Aethia: They're all over the place, and I can't be everywhere at once. I need someone to help organize the troops using my enchanted map.

Taelia: Sure, we can do that.

Aethia: Thanks! I better get going now.

Taelia: Okay.

March 19th, 2018:

New dialogue appeared at the Headquarters with the disappearance of Kaia:

Aethia: Taelia! There you are!

Taelia: I didn't expect to see you this morning. What brings you here?

Aethia: I wanted a word with you.

Taelia: I am sorry to keep you waiting. I was jus -

Aethia: What's wrong?

Taelia: Kaia! She is supposed to be here. Have you seen her?

Aethia: How odd! I haven't seen her at all.

Taelia: Oh! Anyway, what did you want to speak to me about?

Aethia: Well, it's Malum I wanted to see. Since he isn't in his bed, I thought -

Taelia: Wait! What do you mean Malum isn't in his bed?

Aethia: I thought you would know about it!

Taelia: This can't be. Maybe you checked the wrong bed. Let's go in.

In the Infirmary, additional dialogue appeared:

Taelia: This can't be! He was here last night. Right here. He hadn't even fully recovered!

Aethia: Nolan! Did you see anything? How long have you been here?

Nolan: I...I didn't see anything. I just came to see how Aiden is doing, that's all.

Taelia: Was he around when you got here?

Nolan: Who? That monster? No! His bed was empty. I was relieved, to be honest.

Taelia: I don't have a good feeling about this!

Aethia: Neither do I. And now Kaia is missing too. What could it mean?

Taelia: I don't know. All I know is that we should never have treated him...

Aethia: This isn't looking too good. We must find him.

Taelia: Do you still think he is innocent? Surely, their disappearances together couldn't be a coincidence.

Aethia: No, not a coincidence but I still think-

Taelia: What's that poking out? Under his bed?

Taelia: A piece of paper? I don't know what to make of this.

Aethia: It's a clue. A cipher. Quick, we need to solve this! This holds our answers, I am sure of it.

After finding Kaia in the Forgotten Graveyard, new dialogue appeared there:

Kaia: Well, well! Look who is here. Don't look so surprised. Did you really not see this coming? You pitiful little thing. Never mind all that. Let's get to my favourite part: your horrible death!

Kaia: It's a shame I don't have more time; I would have loved to enjoy every bit of this annihilation. Alas! I have bigger things to do!

April 12th, 2018:

When Fyora woke at the Infirmary, new dialogue appeared there:

Taelia: Fyora! You are awake, thank goodness!

Fyora: I have to go. I need to be on my way to the graveyard now.

Taelia: No, please! You must rest. Besides, we have taken care of her.

Fyora: This is bigger. It cannot wait.

Taelia: What is? You have just woken up. You must not leave yet.

Fyora: Did you not hear the explosion? I am sure it came from there. I have to leave right away.

Taelia: No, I didn't hear anything. Your state is still very delicate, Fyora. I suggest -

Fyora: Malum's life is at stake, Taelia. In fact, we are all in danger! I have to go!

Taelia: But Malum...

Fyora: Is not involved in all this. Trust me, I know it.

Taelia: Fyora!

Taelia: No!

At the Clearing in the Forgotten Graveyard, Fyora appeared with new dialogue:

Fyora: Stop! It’s not safe to go forward! Do you see the timer there? It contains a poisonous fume that, if leaked, will kill everyone! The Darkest Faerie had put an Invisibility Veil here to keep us from discovering the timer. By the time I unearthed it, the fumes were already halfway through!

Fyora: For now, I have halted its progress. We must free Malum and Kaia before I can do any more. Kaia tried escaping but she could only blow up the lock. Our best bet is to restore it, and then I will take care of the rest. Collect as many pieces of the lock that you can find scattered around and bring them over. Hurry, we are running out of time!

After restoring the lock, a new video appeared showing Kaia and Malum being freed and the hourglass powering down:

New dialogue then appeared on the Clearing page:

Fyora: We did it! I have deactivated the gas. It's taken care of now.

Malum: Kaia, are you alright? You are not hurt, are you?

Kaia: Reizo? No! This can't be! You can't be! Who are you? What have you done to my friend?

Malum: But I am him, Kaia. This is me, Reizo. I knew she would bring you here. I have been trying to find a way to come help you out for so long.

Kaia: No! This can’t be.

Malum: I may be monstrous to look at but deep inside, I am still your friend.

Kaia: Why should I believe you? You are involved with the Wraiths, aren’t you? You are a part of her sinister schemes.

Malum: I am a victim of her schemes. Your letters about your life in Faerieland made me want to visit you. I missed you! But maybe I should have been more careful...

Kaia: Oh Reizo! How did this happen? What did she do to you?

Fyora: I think I better leave you two to catch up with each other.

May 14th, 2018:

With the removal of the last of the live plot steps, new dialogue appeared on the Headquarters page from Fyora:

Fyora: I am extremely glad to be the harbinger of good news here: the last of the Darkest Faerie’s schemes to crush us has been foiled.

Fyora: Neopia has been restored to its original self. I know you have worked tirelessly with the faeries to help free the affected Neopets from their curse and I am truly thankful to you for that.

Fyora: We have tracked down more of them and I was able to use my newfound understanding of the curse to effectively heal them.

Fyora: I have also done my best to dispel the dreadful haze that had engulfed all of Neopia so we can enjoy our beautiful lands just how they are.

Fyora: We couldn’t have reached this far without your help and I feel you deserve an honour for the efforts you have put in.

Fyora: We couldn’t have reached this far without your help and I feel you deserve an honour for the efforts you have put in.

Fyora: I want you to be alert and keep an eye out for her, just as we all will.

Fyora: She is capable of much evil, and we must not let our guard down.

Meanwhile, over at the Clearing in the Forgotten Graveyard, new dialogue was added between Kaia and Reizo:

Kaia: Oh Reizo! How did this happen? What did she do to you?

Reizo: It all started with the Faerie Festival...
