Haunted Faire Event Guide

2011

The Haunted Faire

In October 2011, the Haunted Faire opened again and acted as a hub for a select group of Halloween related activities. Your pet could bob for apples, spin the Wheel of Misfortune, or partake in Haunted Hijinks. As the month progressed, more events were added.

Masks of Dread

Masks of Dread

For weeks, allusions were made to a "mysterious Cybunny" setting up shop at the Faire. It turned out to be Saskia, a collector. Her goal is to create the ultimate mask, and in order to do this, she requires testers--that's where you come in!

Stop by her cart once a day, pick one of the five masks, and then go on a quick quest. She will have some rewards waiting for you when you finish!

Five Daily Masks

For more information, please read the FAQ. Since this event gives out Neopoint items, you are not allowed to participate on your side account(s).

Optional NC Component

The Masks of Dread NC Quest Pack, which can be purchased in the NC Mall during October, will give you an extra NC prize every time you complete a regular mask quest.

Obtain a pack, go to your inventory, click on the item, and select the Activate option. You will immediately be rewarded with a Trick or Treat Satchel.

If you activated your pack after you've already finished some quests, you will still be awarded the appropriate NC items.

Quest Solutions

Internet Explorer users might have to switch to another browser; Neopets Premium users might have to switch out of Portal mode.

The mask you picked does not matter, but your active pet should be wearing it. Don't see it on your pet? Go to customise them, try on something else, save the changes, put the mask back on, then save again.

You will receive a bonus prize if you complete each quest on the day of its release. For the quest that was released on October 25th (i.e., the Tyrannian one), a day and a half will be given for you to qualify for the extra prize. To confirm that you are eligible for the bonus, go to Saskia's cart and ensure your completed quests have a yellow check mark on them.

October 31st - Neopia

Saskia

You think you've got one last quest left in you, aye? Well then, I have the perfect mask for such an important mission. Here, I'd like you to wear this - it's my ultimate creation. You better hurry!

The following item is placed on your pet:

So, you've agreed to go on a quest wearing one of my masks. A wise decision... now, if you look inside, you'll find a tag containing a clue that tells you where to go and who to see. This one reads: Your help is desperately needed. My most prized mask has been snatched by Neopia's master of nicking knickers. Witnesses overheard him say something about ssscratchcards as he headed in the direction of the Haunted Woods...

Head over to the Deserted Fairground Scratchcards Kiosk.

Part 1

Sidney

Welcome to my kiossk, may I help you? The Pant Devil, you sssay? He tried to sssneak up and sscare me with a massk he was wearing, presssumably to make off with ssome ssscratchcards while I was dsstracted, but I ssaw him coming and turned the tabless, sscaring him away. Where'd he go? I can't ssay, but as he ran off I heard ssomething about a fat, rich Sskeith. Ssskarl, maybe? Good luck; I hope you catch him and he getss his comeuppance. In support of your effort, here, have thiss gift bag.

You receive the following item:

Head over to King Skarl's Neopedia entry.

Part 2

King Skarl

Bah, can't you see I'm in the middle of a snack... alright, what is it? The Pant Devil? Yeah, I've seen him... he ran off with my Candied Yam, the rascal, which is why I'm having Roast Mutton now instead. I'd be in a sore mood, if that mask of yours wasn't funnier than any joke I've heard in the past week. Since you've cheered me up, here, have this gift bag. As for the Pant Devil, yeah... word has it he's taken an interest in a rather powerful character sitting on a heap of treasure. I wouldn't be surprised if he's there...

You receive the following item:

Head over to the Snowager.

Part 3

The Snowager

As you enter the cave, you find yourself face to face with the Snowager, whom (much to your dismay) is wide awake, ARRGH! As it rears back to strike you with an icy blast, you brace yourself for the inevitable impact. It seems, however, that the Snowager likes your mask, and has decided to give you a reprieve. Rather than press your luck in hopes of a gift, you cannonball out into the snow, attempting as you run to think of another "rather powerful character" sitting on a heap of treasure...

Head over to the Governor's Mansion.

Part 4

Gavril McGill

Welcome to me mansion, the greatest achievement in me restoration of Krawk Island. Speaking of achievements, that's, some mask you've got there. The way it clashes with me décor is givin' me a headache, so just take this bag of goodies and go... what, the Pant Devil? Yes, that scoundrel's been here - literally snatched the dubloons from me trousers. As I chased him, I could hear his stomach growling, so he's got to be hungry. Rumor has it he's fond of food from Shenkuu; how about lookin' there?

You receive the following item:

Head over to Culinary Concoctions.

Part 5

Chef Bonju

As you enter Culinary Concoctions, you find Chef Bonju tied up and the Pant Devil eating from his pot! Thinking quickly, you cover the pot and refuse to lift it until the Pant Devil gives you the mask. Relenting, he turns over Saskia's prized mask. Once Bonju is untied, he says thanks and gives you a gift bag while lauding your mask's stylish design. You thank him, and on the way out, think of how happy Saskia will be to have her mask back.

If you have activated an NC Quest Pack:

Just a moment! I've thought of something else I'd like you to have, seeing as you saved me from the Pant Devil. Is there any room in your Bag of Dread for this Toy Scythe of Dread?

You receive the following item(s):

Go back to Saskia's cart.

Part 6

Saskia

I see you've returned...

For a moment there, I was afraid you might not be able to track down that rascal. I truly appreciate you returning my most prized mask! As your reward, the I Beat the Pant Devil Foreground and the Saskia Trick-or-Treat Bag are now in your inventory.

Thank you for helping me with my mask testing. You were quite helpful, and by the look of all these gift bags you collected, it seems you did exceedingly well for yourself while running down the Pant Devil and getting back my mask. Yes, a most impressive haul. Maybe I will return next year...

If you completed all quests on the day of release:

One last thing... for being able to stay on top of everything throughout this entire adventure, a Book of Awesome for taking care of each quest on its first day is also in your inventory.

You receive the following items:

October 30th - Faerieland

Saskia

Ah, you have a curious air about you... looking for trouble, aye? I believe you've come to the right place. Please, put on one of my delightful masks, and you will begin testing them by going on quests for me. To be honest, though, I'm not certain how safe my creations are... but I truly appreciate your help, so I'll reward you for your trouble.

Choose one of the five daily masks to be placed on your pet.

So, you've agreed to go on a quest wearing one of my masks. A wise decision... now, if you look inside, you'll find a tag containing a clue that tells you where to go and who to see. This one reads: Upon your arrival at Faerieland, first hit the books, and then search for the one who's been left behind.

Head over to Faerieland Bookshop.

Part 1

Faerieland Bookshop Shopkeeper

Hello, I'll be with you in just a moment... *puts down books* okay, is there anything I can help you find? Hmm... info, you say, relating to someone being left behind. I don't believe we have any books along those lines, but it's funny you should mention it - I read an article recently, something about long lost sea creatures, "visions in blue," which were recently spotted around the Faerie Caverns. Could that possible have something to do with what you're looking for? Alright, well... best of luck!

Head over to the Faerie Caverns.

Part 2

Water Faerie

As you reach the Faerie Caverns, you spot a water faerie, who greets you warmly. "You seem like you're looking for something," she says, so you explain the events leading to your visit. "Hmm, no long lost sea creatures around here, not that I've heard of," she tells you. "The only 'vision is blue' around here is that Grundo plushie, who'll occasionally sway a little if there's a strong breeze." You thank her and move on...

Head over to the Discarded Magical Blue Grundo Plushie of Prosperity.

Part 3

Blue Grundo Plushie

The blue Grundo plushie's expression conveys how glad he is that you've arrived... The expression on the blue Grundo plushie's face gives you the impression that he likes your mask. You tell yourself that that's just silly, but as you turn around to have a look at the area, you see a Faerie Colouring Book and Tooth Faerie Sweets sitting behind you. Looking back at the plushie, you suddenly remember that you need to make one last stop to see Saskia for an additional surprise. How convenient...

- or -

The blue Grundo plushie's expression conveys how glad he is that you've arrived... You look around, but a faint glow grabs your attention and you look back at the plushie, it is now sitting up against a Faerie Colouring Book and Tooth Faerie Sweets. These items must be intended for you; you thank the plushie, and begin the trek to Saskia's for an added bonus.

- or -

The blue Grundo plushie's expression conveys how glad he is that you've arrived... As you approach the blue Grundo plushie, you see that it has a rather frightened expression on its face. Also, nestled in its arms, almost as if they were being offered while you were being asked to please, please go away, is a Faerie Colouring Book and Tooth Faerie Sweets. Taking the hint (and the items), you go on your way, making a mental note to visit Saskia for a little something extra for your trouble.

- or -

The blue Grundo plushie's expression conveys how glad he is that you've arrived... Coming closer, you notice the look on the blue Grundo plushie's face, which if you didn't know better would give you the impression that he's rather impressed by your mask. You look to your left, and now notice a Faerie Colouring Book and Tooth Faerie Sweets resting against the trunk of a tree. Hmm, that wasn't there before, you think to yourself. Scooping up the items, you make a mental note to see Saskia for an additional treat.

- or -

The blue Grundo plushie's expression conveys how glad he is that you've arrived... You stroll up to the plushie, then lean in for a better look, failing to notice that the flames from your mask have set it on fire! You quickly rush to put out the flames. When the smoke clears, you notice a Faeries Colouring Book and Tooth Faerie Sweets beside the plushie, plus an angry look on its face. Getting the hint, you take the plushie's offering and leave, reminding yourself to see Saskia for one last surprise.

If you have activated an NC Quest Pack:

Hold up... what's that? As you're leaving, you spot a Dark Faerie Sister Wig behind the tree that the blue Grundo plushie's dangling from. You somehow find enough room for it in your Bag of Dread and move on...

You receive the following items:

Go back to Saskia's cart.

Part 4

Saskia

I see you've returned...

I thought for sure this time you'd come up short, and yet, here you are. In all my travels I've known plenty who could've done this backward in their sleep. That being said, y'know, nice job... The Discarded Magical Blue Grundo Plushie of Prosperity Stamp has been added to your inventory.

And, of course, you can keep the items you received on your quest. They're of no use to me and my testing. You should check your inventory, if you haven't already.

Don't forget you'll be able to test another mask tomorrow. I just... need to make some notes on how well this mask worked.

You receive the following item:

October 29th - Virtupets

This one reads: You should read up on Neopia's greatest villain. Possessing an impeccable sense of taste, he'd probably think highly of your mask.

Head over to Dr. Frank Sloth's Neopedia entry.

Part 1

Dr. Frank Sloth

I say, weakling! What's that you're wearing? I find it oddly repulsive, yet compelling nonetheless. That said, the fact you've sought out details about me shows you've got at least some intelligence and taste; there may be hope for you yet. Speaking of taste, are you familiar with Grundos café? It's not a favourite of mine, personally (and I know that's really all that matters), but there are some who like it. If nothing else, they have the good sense to serve numurous dishes inspired by yours truly...

Head over to Grundos Cafe.

Part 2

Gargarox

"At last, you're here! Let me just set this to simmer and I'll be right with you..." Gargarox smiles at your mask and taps his finger on his chin. "That reminds me of a costume I had a few years back..." he says, then absent-mindedly gives you a huge spoonful of Cheese Manicotti and a helping of Mystery Dessert Goo as he looks off into the distance. "I believe Saskia has an extra surprise for you, too, so you'll probably want to pay her a visit," he suggests.

- or -

"At last, you're here! Let me just set this to simmer and I'll be right with you... Eurgh! That mask of yours is repulsive... congratulations, you've succeeded in making me lose my appetite." With a grunt, Gargarox gives you a serving of Cheese Manicotti and some Mystery Dessert Goo. Shielding his gaze, he reminds you, "Don't forget to swing by and see Saskia again; I believe she's also got a little something for you, too."

- or -

"At last, you're here! Let me just set this to simmer and I'll be right with you..." Gargarox points his spoon around the corner, then says, "Are you the handyman? It's about time. The access tube is that way..." When your response is a strange look rather than leaving to make the repair, the chef realises his mistake. Embarrassed, he shuffles over to give you some Cheese Manicotti and Mystery Dessert Goo before asking that you run along now and pretend this never happened. As you heed his request, he reminds you to be sure and visit Saskia for an additional surprise.

- or -

"At last, you're here! Let me just set this to simmer and I'll be right with you..." Gargarox responds to your mask with alarm, shouting and flinging a spoonful of yesterday's "special" (Cheese Manicotti with a side of Mystery Dessert Goo) at you. Luckily, some of it lands in your bag. As he chases you away, you make a mental note to go back to see Saskia, since you believe she'll have something extra for you.

- or -

"At last, you're here! Let me just set this to simmer and I'll be right with you... Oh my! This mask is like what you'd get if the coconut portion of someone's tropical dish went horribly wrong... not very appealing if you ask me. Here, take this Cheese Manicotti and some Mystery Dessert Goo, two of my own creations that I think turned out well (unlike that mask - oh, brother!). Oh, one final thing - be sure to visit Saskia one last time. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised."

If you have activated an NC Quest Pack:

Wait! Speaking of Saskia, that's some hair she's got, huh? Would you or someone you know be interested in a similarly dark style? Here, then - take this Ray Gun Shower.

You receive the following items:

Go back to Saskia's cart.

Part 3

Saskia

I see you've returned...

If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were getting the hang of this. Don't go getting full of yourself, however - if you don't stay on your toes, the next time might not work out so well. As for this quest, eh, I suppose I've seen worse... Gargaroxs Lunchbox has been added to your inventory.

And, of course, you can keep the items you received on your quest. They're of no use to me and my testing. You should check your inventory, if you haven't already.

Don't forget you'll be able to test another mask tomorrow. I just... need to make some notes on how well this mask worked.

You receive the following item:

October 28th - Moltara

This one reads: Getting to the bottom of things in Moltara requires not being afraid to ask.

Head over to the Magma Pool.

Part 1

Magma Pool Guard

I'm sorry, only tho-what's this, you have a question? At long last, someone actually interested in becoming well-versed in the ways of Moltara, and not just looking for a paint job! Go on, ask your question... what's this? You don't know what to ask?!? How am I supp-look, I don't have time for this. Maybe someone with lots of time on their hands (and a very creative imagination), like my friend over there *points head, slightly to the right* can provide the answer you seek?

Head over to Igneot's Cavern.

Part 2

Igneot

Welcome to my cavern! It's nice to have some company... I take it there's something you'd like to ask me? What's that, you don't know what to ask? Oh, that's okay... I'm not too particular. I'm sure pretty much any topic will do. Besides, who knows where the conversation will go once the ball gets rolling...

Type anything in the box provided on that page, then click "Submit."

Welcome to my cavern! I'm so pleased that you managed to find me... "And what a beautiful mask!" Igneot declares, smiling so brightly that his flames threaten to smolder your costume. "Here, have a Brass Gear Belt and a Melted Chocolate Negg. It's also my understanding that, if you pop on over to see Saskia again, she's got an extra surprise in store for you."

- or -

Welcome to my cavern! I'm so pleased that you managed to find me... This mask certainly conjures a lot of questions in my mind. We could probably discuss it for hours... alas, that conversation shall have to wait until another time. Before you go, here, have this Brass Gear Belt and Melted Chocolate Negg. If you'd like a little something extra, be sure to make seeing Saskia your next destination!

- or -

Welcome to my cavern! I'm so pleased that you managed to find me... Then, Igneot gives you a look as though he recognises you. "Harold? Harold, is that-oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were someone else." The flames on his face burn pink for a brief moment as he quickly hands you a Brass Gear Belt and Melted Chocolate Negg. He then mentions that, if you pay another visit to Saskia, she's got something else you may like.

- or -

Welcome to my cavern! I'm so pleased that you managed to find me... Oh, hey, a mask... that's cool, I suppose, if you're into that sort of thing. Personally, the topic of masks falls somewhere between rug burns and the removal of hard water stains on my list of interesting things to talk about, so... here, just take this Brass Gear Belt and Melted Chocolate Negg and I'll see you around, I guess. Oh, and be sure to pay Saskia a visit. I hear she's got a scintillating surprise for you...

- or -

Welcome to my cavern! I'm so pleased that you managed to find me... Ooh... a mask featuring such brilliant flames is certain to be exceedingly popular down here in Moltara. I'd like to express how much I like it by giving you a Brass Gear Belt and Melted Chocolate Negg. I'm not the only one feeling generous, though; if you swing back to see Saskia I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised with what she's got for you.

If you have activated an NC Quest Pack:

Goodness, I almost forgot. I'd like to give you this Magma Pit Foreground. It's a little bulky, but well worth making room for in your Bag of Dread, I would think...

You receive the following items:

Go back to Saskia's cart.

Part 3

Saskia

I see you've returned...

I was starting to think I might've seen the last of you. I suppose you've done a decent enough job helping me test my masks this time, so Igneots Fire Flower has been added to your inventory.

And, of course, you can keep the items you received on your quest. They're of no use to me and my testing. You should check your inventory, if you haven't already.

Don't forget you'll be able to test another mask tomorrow. I just... need to make some notes on how well this mask worked.

You receive the following item:

October 27th - Qasala

This one reads: You'd feel defensive, too, if you were the eyeliner king of the Lost Desert.

Head over to the Desert Arms shop.

Part 1

Desert Arms Shopkeeper

Welcome to Desert Arms, home to the finest selection of shields, scimitars, and scarab-themed weapons in all the land! What's this, you're looking for King Jazan? I'm not usually the sort to gossip about royalty, but you seem like an upstanding sort. His Majesty passed through briefly, mentioning that he was in need of something for Queen Nabile. My guess is he's currently browsing on the other side of the city. If you hurry, you might be able to catch him...

Head over to the Qasalan Delights shop.

Part 2

Qasalan Delights Shopkeeper

Ahh, I'd recognise the look of hunger anywhere! What's that, you're actually not looking for something to eat?!? King Jazan? He popped in briefly a few minutes ago. Well, as you can tell, he's no longer here. If you're in luck he might still be around Qasala, but he may have headed back to Sakhmet, you'd best hurry... good luck!

Head over to the Sutek's Scrolls shop.

Part 3

Jazan

I've been expecting you. I take it the desert didn't treat you too harshly... What a lovely mask... almost as beautiful as my beloved Queen Nabile. Well, maybe not quite, but impressive nonetheless. To show my high regard, here is an Evil Baklava and some Green Candy Buttons. Also, don't forget to visit Saskia for an extra surprise.

- or -

I've been expecting you. I take it the desert didn't treat you too harshly...Well... if your intention was to put a fright into all who you encounter, I'd say you're well on your way to that goal. Not that you scared me, mind you. Here, have some Green Candy Buttons and an Evil Baklava. As if that weren't enough, be sure to go see Saskia for an additional reward.

- or -

I've been expecting you. I take it the desert didn't treat you too harshly..."Whoa! *reaches for sword* Good gracious... do you have any idea how close you just came to getting attacked? You should really be more careful about what you wear out in public. Guards!" *a pair of Jazan's guards come over, hand you an Evil Baklava and some Green Candy Buttons, then suggest that you leave as quickly and quietly as possible. As you exit, you make a mental note to swing by and see Saskia one last time.

- or -

I've been expecting you. I take it the desert didn't treat you too harshly...Oh, is that a mask you're wearing? I suppose I hardly noticed. Anyhow, here, have an Evil Baklava and some Green Candy Buttons. Also, don't forget to visit Saskia once more. You'll be glad you did.

- or -

I've been expecting you. I take it the desert didn't treat you too harshly...I say... that's an interesting mask you have there. I have to admit, I actually kind of like it. In fact, to show you how much I like it, I'd like to give you this Evil Baklava and Green Candy Buttons. If you enjoy those, then I'm sure you'll love what Saskia has for you, so be sure to stop in one last time.

If you have activated an NC Quest Pack:

That's an unusual-looking bag you have. may I draw a sketch of it, to have one made for Nabile? *draws sketch* Thank you. For your trouble, please, take this Zombie Mummy Wrap Dress.

You receive the following items:

Go back to Saskia's cart.

Part 4

Saskia

I see you've returned...

Not so easy this time, eh, or did you take the scenic route back? Your effort in this quest was a serviceable one all the same, so an Armour Catalogue Tablet has been added to your inventory.

And, of course, you can keep the items you received on your quest. They're of no use to me and my testing. You should check your inventory, if you haven't already.

Don't forget you'll be able to test another mask tomorrow. I just... need to make some notes on how well this mask worked.

You receive the following item:

October 25th - Tyrannia

This one reads: Standing guard over Tyrannia's primary food source can get lonely. Luckily, there's a place for those in search of a playful Petpet pal...

Head over to the Tyrannian Petpets shop.

Part 1

Tyrannian Petpets Shopkeeper

Welcome to my Petpet shop. I'm Pacha; if I can help you with anything, just let me know... so, you're looking for someone who's been feeling lonely while standing guard in Tyrannia? That's a tough one... *belly grumbles* eep, excuse me! Well, I can't say I'm lonely, since it seems this grumble in my tummy always shows up around this time of day. Fortunately, my shop is close to the Giant Omelette... it's typically very crowded, you know. Maybe the one you're looking for is there? Well, good luck with your search...

Head over to the Giant Omelette.

Part 2

Sabre-X

I figured it was only a matter of time before you found me here. That's quite a mask you've got there. Not something I'd wear, to be honest. Here's a Sabre-X Plushie for you, and some Rock Candy, too. Don't forget to pay a final visit to Saskia; I believe she may have something else for you.

- or -

I figured it was only a matter of time before you found me here. Sabre-X raises an eyebrow and, saying nothing, hands over a Sabre-X Plushie and some Rock Candy, as well. You then console yourself with the thought that Saskia will surely reward you further upon your return.

- or -

I figured it was only a matter of time before you found me here. Sabre-X tilts his head, trying to make sense of your mask. After a moment's contemplation, he tosses you a Sabre-X Plushie and some Rock Candy - a decent haul, which will surely be added to when you return to see Saskia.

- or -

I figured it was only a matter of time before you found me here. Ahh yes, a very handsome and lovingly-carved mask. It obviously requires lots of very skilled effort. It's a pleasure to show my appreciation with these gifts. For you: a Sabre-X Plushie, as well as some Rock Candy. Additionally, make sure you stop over to see Saskia for a little something extra.

- or -

I figured it was only a matter of time before you found me here. Well done! This mask is so spooky it even had me going for a moment there... it gives me some measure of delight to reward you for your daring choice of costume with this Sabre-X Plushie and some Rock Candy that I'm sure you're going to love. That's not all, though - be sure to visit Saskia for an additional surprise.

If you have activated an NC Quest Pack:

Just a moment - I see you're carrying a bag with you. I bet this Lair of the Beast Background that I've got would fit in there. Here, go on and take it.

You receive the following items:

Go back to Saskia's cart.

(Note: If you did not receive quest dialogue at the omelette, go back to Saskia anyway and she should say you completed it.)

Part 3

Saskia

I see you've returned...

What's this, back from your first quest already? That wasn't too difficult, now was it? I suppose you did well enough. A Second Piece of Omelette has been added to your inventory.

There are currently no more quests for you to accept. Be sure to return tomorrow, however, and try on another mask!

And, of course, you can keep the items you received on your quest. They're of no use to me and my testing. You should check your inventory, if you haven't already.

Don't forget you'll be able to test another mask tomorrow. I just... need to make some notes on how well this mask worked.

You receive the following item:
